Dr. Jernell Escobar

Dr. Escobar attended dental school at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. During her time there, her dedication to the profession of dentistry was clearly demonstrated by her clinical and classroom performance.

Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Jernell Escobar became interested in healthcare while serving her country as a Public Health technician for the United States Air Force. After seven years of military service, Dr. Escobar was honorably discharged from the Air Force having garnered multiple awards and service commendations. Upon completion of her service, Dr. Escobar focused her attention on completing her undergraduate degree at San Jose State University. She graduated, with honors, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. In addition, while completing her undergraduate education, Dr. Escobar was involved in genetics research at Stanford University.

She was awarded the Fixed Prosthodontics Award for outstanding performance, the Norma T. and Robert G. Grosso Award for interest and promise as a dental educator and the Quintessence Award for outstanding performance in clinical restorative dentistry. In addition, she was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Tau Kappa Omega dental honor societies for scholastic excellence. Dr. Escobar earned the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2006.

After completion of dental school, Dr. Escobar continued her education at the University of the Pacific School of Education and earned a Master of Arts in Dental Education in 2009. She was also invited to join the dental school faculty as an instructor for Preclinical Restorative Dentistry.

Dr. Escobar has been practicing dentistry in the bay area since 2006. She is passionate about providing exceptional oral health care in a patient centered environment. In addition, Dr. Escobar enjoys spending time with her two children. Some of her favorite activities include travel, boating, running marathons, triathlons, wakeboarding and yoga.

 

Verena Orozco

Office Administrator

Her favorite part of the job is meeting and getting to know the patients and making them feel welcome to the practice.

Verena Orozco has worked as Dr. Escobar’s Front Desk Administrator since 2014. She also enjoys occasionally assisting at chairside. In fact, she’s working on getting qualified as a Registered Dental Assistant. During her time off she enjoys spending time with family and friends.

 

Jessica Del Carlo

Office Manager

One of her favorite parts of her job is helping patients get a better understanding of their insurance and being able to get all their claims paid for them.

Jessica Del Carlo has worked at Dr. Escobar’s office for almost 3 years. She also likes getting to know the patients, helping them enjoy the experience while ensuring they have a smooth appointment. Jessica is currently a full-time student at Gavilan College, studying business with a minor in management. On her days off she enjoys working out, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family, friends and dogs.

 

Samantha Tripp

Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

Samantha Tripp has been a Registered Dental Assistant for three years, and has been working alongside Dr. Escobar for the past two years.
Sam was born and raised in Gilroy, and is a friend face to many of our local patients.
On her off time she loves traveling and going on hikes.

 

Elena Widergren

Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

She is detail oriented and passionate about what she does and genuinely cares about the patients and their dental health.

Elena is a registered Dental Assistant, who brings twelve years of dental experience, strong work ethic and professionalism to the team.
She has specialized training in Esthetics and Cosmetic Denistry from Spears Education in Scottsdale, Arizona. Elena is originally from Colombia and is bilingual in English and Spanish. She has a degree in Translation and Interpretation from The National Hispanic University San Jose and also a degree in Enviornmental Studies specalizing in Natural Resources. Elena enjoys traveling with her two sons, and also enjoys exercising and picnics in the park.

 

Christine Drysdale

Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)

“I enjoy educating my patients on ways to improve their smile,” says Christine. “Dentistry is changing in many ways and I am so excited to be a part of it.”

Christine Drysdale has been a Registered Dental Hygienist in Gilroy for 27 years and has been a hygienist for Dr. Jernell Escobar since she took over the practice.

She completed her Dental Hygiene education in 1988 at Cabrillo College in Aptos. She’s excited to be a member of Dr. Escobar’s staff.

Christine has been married for 25 years and has two children. She enjoy spending time with her family, boating, snowboarding, camping, traveling and attending sporting events.

 

Paula McDermott

Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH)

She says that working with her fellow employees feels like family. One of her favorite part of the job is working with her patients, helping them and making them feel great about their smile.

Registered Dental Hygienist Paula McDermott has worked for more than 30 years in Dr. Escobar’s office. In her time off she loves spending time with her family, husband Michael, daughter Ashley, 21, Kade, 18 and Kennedy, 13. Together, they enjoy going to the beach, Lake Tahoe and taking spin classes.
